Art Journalling

I've recently started having a go at a form of scrapbooking called 'Art Journalling'. There are no rules, anything goes and as long as you like it and it's meaningful to you in some way it's fine. I personally find it very hard.

I was never much good at freeform embroidery either. I sort of need guidelines to work to. Normally a photo serves as a focal point to a page but a page without a photo seems harder somehow. You need another focal point. This could be an element, a quote or nothing at all.

I did this but I'm not sure I like it. I found the quote which seemed quite relevant.

Why should You Scrapbook? Or at Least Why I Do.

There are many reasons to scrapbook but these are some of the main reasons I do. There could be many more reasons that I hadn't thought about too. Whilst I mainly scrap my photos digitally this equally applies to physical scrapbooking.

The number one reason to scrap your photographs is to preserve them. If you do physical scrapbooking then make sure that you use acid-free and lignin-free materials including page protectors and albums.

Second reason, heritage. If you are taking photos that you would like to be handed down to your children or family, then scrapping those photos in a meaningful way is a must. Who, where and when are invaluable. It gives life and meaning to otherwise meaningless photos. Our memories are short and even if we remember, once we're gone will your children remember or know who the photos were of or where they were taken? Your children and grandchildren will have more fun if they can look back on what their ancesters did and where they lived. And indeed, what they liked or didn't like doing.

Third reason for me is a vent for healing. I scrap photos and relive the painful moments. I journal my thoughts, shed a few tears and put things into perspective. It helps heal.

Forth reason, it's fun, as well as healing it reminds me of fun times doing things I love. Sometimes I scrap for posterity and sometimes I just scrap one moment in time for me. A bit like a visual diary or journal. Sometimes I just scrap a quote or phrase or my thoughts without photos.

Fifth reson, sometimes I just want to create art. No reason other than I like something and want an arty piece.

Can you think of any other reason to scrap photos? I'm sure there must be more.

Leave me a comment.

Welcome to Dragonfly Dreams

Welcome to my new blog.

I have been digital scrapbooking for a while now and decided to offer my services as a 'Scrap 4 Hire' business.

I believe in preserving our memories for future generations. All too often we end up with drawers full of photos that within a very short time become meaningless because we don't know who, where or when they were taken.

On this blog I will share with you my ramblings and creations.

This picture was inspired by the song 'Windmills of Your Mind'. The windmill is a photograph that I took at Marsh Mill, Thornton.

I am exploring a variety of styles and also having a go at art Journalling purely for myself.

I'll be back shortly with more updates.

bye for now
